Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (born 5 February 1992), commonly known simply as Neymar , also known by his shirt name Neymar Jr., is a Brazilian footballer who plays in the Brasileirão Série A for Santos and the Brazilian national football team, mainly as a forward.On 30 December 2010, Neymar came third behind Andrés D'Alessandro and Juan Sebastián Verón for the 2010 South American Footballer of the Year. However, a year later, on 31 December 2011, he won the 2011 South American Footballer of the Year award for the first time, by a record margin. Neymar received nominations for the FIFA Ballon d'Or and FIFA Puskás Award in 2011, where he came out 10th for the 2011 FIFA Ballon d'Or award and won the 2011 FIFA Puskás Award for scoring a sensational solo goal of the season in the Brasileirão Série A against Flamengo. He is known for his acceleration, speed, exceptional dribbling, finishing in front on goal and technical ability. His playing style has earned him critical acclaim, with fans, media and former player's drawing comparisons to FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Brazil legend Pelé, who has declared Neymar as "an excellent player".
Neymar joined Santos in 2004 and was subsequently promoted to their first team squad. Making his debut in the 2009 season, on 7 March 2009 and quickly made this his breakthrough season. Becoming a first team regular and being voted the Best Young Player of the 2009 Campeonato Paulista. Major honours soon followed as Santos won the 2010 Campeonato Paulista which Neymar was voted best player and 2010 Copa do Brasil which he was top scorer with 11 goals. Neymar finishing the 2010 season with 42 goals in 60 games in a Domestic Double-winning season. Neymar then had another successful season in his playing career, where Santos retained their title to win the 2011 Campeonato Paulista with Neymar again being voted best player. They also won the 2011 Copa Libertadores which he was also best player in, in which he scored 6 goals in 13 appearances. Neymar playing an integral part, in the 2011 season, in a Continental Double-winning campaign, Santos first since 1963. He received the Bronze Ball in the 2011 FIFA Club World Cup, with Santos making it to the final, but were defeated by Spanish club FC Barcelona, 4–0.Neymar is a Brazilian international, having represented Brazil at Under-17, Under-20 and senior levels. On 10 August 2010 he made his debut for Seleção in a friendly match against the United States, at the age of 18, starting and wearing the number 11 jersey. Where he scored a header in the 28 minute, in a 2–0 win for Brazil. He was the top scorer of the 2011 South American Youth Championship with nine goals, including two in the final, in the 6-0 win against Uruguay, to help Brazil to a 11th title.
